Thank you for visiting our access measure page, we hope it is useful - we will update the information once we have a clearer idea of our takeover model, so please do revisit in the week of the 14th October

The Squeeze Box What to Expect and Access Page – see and interact with (workshop) projection, soundscaping and creativity along the themes of identity and how we care for one another

Wheelchair accessible toilets are available at the Barnfield Theatre (please let us know if a changing room is needed and we can work with local partners to make one available)

The initiations of Squeeze Box – Warmly held by pre/post show conversations, humour, gentle moments and humanity, artist and audiences transcend politics, silo–thinking and the status-quo, reaching inner emotions, empathy and impulsion. This is punctuated by the hard-hitting reality of social care cuts, directly reaching the essence of what it is like to be Squeezed into a Box – leaving behind identity, self-worth and spirit.

Whilst the performance element will be intense, loud in places and emotionally driven, the space will be relaxed. The main doors will be open throughout the day and audience members are invited to come and go, position themselves wherever feels comfortable in the space and respond to the work in whatever way feels comfortable to them. There will be a selection of chairs/cushions so, feel free to stand, sit or lie.

Squeeze Box is going for a creative take-over vibe. To us, this means the performance and workshop elements you might engage with will be ever-changing, fuelled by improv and by audience/artists in the space. We do have a structure, narrative or score that weaves the soundscape, projection art and performance together but the playful nature of Squeeze Box will create new experiences.

Squeeze Box has workshop/participatory as a core thread, although you are more than welcome to come and be an observer, you can dive straight into the conversation-driven work. To help everyone feel comfortable, we invite audience members to create a name badge as they come in. You will be able to put a green, orange or purple sticker/mark on them. Please let us know if we can help with making your badge.

Green equals, I am up for getting involved in the performance

Red equals, looking forward to experiencing the work but don’t want to get involve

You are welcome to swap your stickers at any time and your badge does not define you in the space, it just gives the artist an idea of how to engage with everyone.

The main performance, beginning at 2:30pm, with audiences encouraged to get to the space at 2.00pm. The work does not necessarily have a defined start. Because there is no traditional staging and artists and audiences will be on the same level, often occupying the same space, the performance will have a natural flow and no change of atmosphere will happen on the 2.30 mark. If you would feel more comfortable knowing when the performance starts, let one of the team know and we will make sure we let you know when the shift in the space will happen.

BSL – BSL interpreter Emma is a main performer and will be integrating BSLhe day, with a more structured interpretation from 6.

AD – audience descriptions will be lightly integrated into the performance element from 6.30 but if more consistent will be helpful, please let us know when you enter the space and one of the creative team will support you.
